Canada's Blue Jays Earn Fall Classic Matchup With Los Angeles Dodgers
The outfielder was instrumental for the Astros securing the championship in the 2017 season.
Canada's MLB team reached their first World Series since the 1993 season by defeating the Seattle Mariners in the seventh Game 7 of the American League Championship Series.
Down 3-1, the star outfielder hit a three-run home run in the seventh, leading the Toronto squad in the majors to a four games to three victory in the best-of-seven series. They will now face the defending champions, who are the defending champions, in the upcoming championship.
"I'm thrilled for our team, our city, our country," said Springer, a star of the Astros team that claimed the 2017 World Series. "It's truly an unbelievable moment."
George Springer has now connected for twenty-three playoff homers, ranking him third in history after Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).
"There's probably not anyone else in the world that I'd choose in that situation except for George Springer with his post-season brilliance," remarked Schneider.
Seattle's team, who had led the series two games to none and three games to two, are still the sole team that has never reached in a Fall Classic.
Mariners manager Dan Wilson commented "there's no question that it hurts" following his side's defeat at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but applauded their performance in the campaign.
"They're an exceptional squad. Unfortunately that we finished on the losing end of this game," he remarked.
Toronto secured the title on their two prior appearances in 1992 and '93, and will welcome the Dodgers in the opener on Friday.
