Her Royal Highness's Annual Christmas Carol Concert Honours Community Volunteers

The Princess of Wales is hosting her annual festive musical service at Westminster Abbey, with attendees featuring dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have helped their communities.

The 1,600 guests will listen to a selection of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from actors such as Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

A Theme of Kindness and Compassion

The theme of the service, held in the candle-lit Abbey on the afternoon, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.

Attending the event are Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose child passed away from a brain tumour, and who set up a charity, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a child with a terminal illness.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often quietly and unspoken, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an profound impact to the circumstances of individuals," Her Royal Highness stated in a message before the concert.

Carefully Paced Reappearance

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own measured re-emergence to public life following her health challenges and treatment, recently giving her major oration since 2023, in which she discussed recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".

Music and Opportunity

Guests arriving at the Abbey can listen to talented youth performers aided by the charitable trust Future Talent, established in part by the late Duchess of Kent to widen access to music lessons.

An 18-year-old named Carys Wood, who is a trumpet player and is from Wales, has been supported by the organisation, with grants helping towards equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "awesome" to be performing at the evening's event.

"Music can be very expensive," the musician remarked. She is now enrolled at the Royal Academy of Music, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to develop their musical skills.

Generations Gathering

Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who performs on the brass instrument, will be present at the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.

Among the guests will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will include nine-year-old Saphia Turner, winner of a prize for youthful altruism, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to raise money for local food charities.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been festooned with specially made wreaths, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.

Among the musical performers will be recording artist Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a Cornish sea shanty group, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "the icing on the cake for us."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be aired by ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
