Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy traveled to speak to national troops in the Pokrovsk area on the start of the week. He stated that he engaged with soldiers at the military base of the 1st Corps of the National Guard of Ukraine Azov, which is conducting a defensive operation in the Dobropillya zone, a location approximately 20km from the city.

Intense Situation in the Region

Updated analysis from a Ukrainian project revealed that invading troops had advanced deeper into Pokrovsk and its environs, though much of it lacked clear dominance by both forces. The status is precarious, with accounts indicating that Russian forces were digging in and building up positions in various sectors.

Russian forces are pushing forward in the Pokrovsk front and appear to be operating with growing ease within urban Pokrovsk.

Analysts noted that defense units had liberated a significant portion of a Russian penetration in the Dobropillya direction, on the eastern flank of the Pokrovsk campaign.

Ukrainian Aerial Attacks Inside Russian Territory

Kyiv's aerial vehicles targeted a production facility approximately 1,300km inside Russian territory at the city. Local officials announced a detonation at the industrial complex that led to the partial collapse to be compromised, adding that the origin of the detonation was undetermined. The national defense command stated there was significant destruction to the facility.

Defense units said it struck a petroleum facility at the city in the Russian region east of Moscow. The extent of the damage was being assessed. The local official verified an assault by multiple unmanned aircraft near the refinery.

Kremlin Security Policy Changes

Russian military reservists will now have to protect fuel facilities against unmanned assaults after Vladimir Putin signed a law on the weekday increasing their involvement in the military campaign. The Russian ruler also signed a law allowing military conscription all year round whereas before it happened only during specific times in cooler seasons. Moscow legally bars recruits from being assigned to fighting, but after their defense commitment they become part of the backup units, putting them at risk of being deployed to conflict.

Significant armed forces costs have also started to stress the federal treasury, with Moscow raising taxes to cover increasing gaps.

Zelenskyy's Appeals for Allied Help

The national leader appealed to Washington to remain open to providing Ukraine with extended-distance arms. Addressing a European Union summit from the conflict zone, the Ukrainian president also called for more international restrictions on Russia – including on fuel and power segments – and said he desired European Union membership by the end of the 2020s.

Germany plans to raise its military aid to the eastern European country by three billion euros next year to about 11.5 billion euros, the treasury department in the German government said on the weekday. This comprises, among other things, heavy weapons, unmanned aircraft, armoured vehicles and the substitution of air defense units.

The European nation summoned Russia's deputy ambassador on the start of the week to protest at what it said were vulgar, disturbing and unacceptable remarks by Moscow's foreign ministry spokeswoman who associated the tragic event of a tower in Rome to Italy's military support for the conflict zone. The government representative stated that Italy will not alter its foreign policy stance or its principles in answer to careless statements.
